Book Haven

This is not a good time for the book. In fact bookstores are, all of them, homes to those artifacts still identified with printed paper and bound: there are fewer and fewer people who want them and just few people left who love them. Maybe the last fashionable novella,…

There are then three types of libraries: large bookstores, small libraries and bookshops. The first are easy to find, so the foreigner, the stranger, the alien, the visitor, the curious, have no need of anyone recommending them (they are also open on holidays). The latter are only interesting if they are specialized in a particular topic, otherwise they always fall short. And the third type of bookshops is in general, small paradise for lovers of knowledge (knowledge maniacs, bibliopaths).

It is not innocent the fact that those bookshops are also called sales libraries. You must never miss the "opportunity". Maybe all libraries are nursing books, but in fact only one is asylum par excellence: Book Haven. Nobody wants to miss that there be disappointed: ancient books, out-of-print books, rare books, collections of magazines, films and old posters, prints ... What any visitor can see in the store is exactly one "tip of the iceberg" and believe it or not Toni perfectly knows what he has. There are certainly more old bookstores (that’s how they are called) but they are not as great.

El asilo del libro

No es éste un buen momento para el libro. De hecho las librerías son, todas ellas, los asilos de esos artefactos que aún identificamos con papel impreso y encuadernado: cada vez hay menos gente que los quiera y apenas queda gente que los ame. En todo caso, la última novelita de moda...

Hay entonces tres tipos de librerías: las grandes librerías, las pequeñas librerías y las librerías de lance. Las primeras son fáciles de encontrar, por lo que el guiri , el extranjero, el foráneo, el visitante, el curioso, no tienen necesidad de que nadie se las sugiera (porque además abren los festivos). Las segundas sólo son interesantes si se encuentran especializadas en un tema concreto, de otro modo siempre se quedan cortas. Y las terceras son, así en genérico, pequeños paraísos para los amantes del conocimiento (fetichisitas del saber, bibliópatas).

No es inocente el hecho de que también se las denomine librerías de ocasión. Y nunca hay que dejar pasar "la ocasión". Puede que todas las librerías sean asilos de libros, pero en realidad sólo una es el asilo por antonomasia: El asilo del libro. Nadie que que por allí quiera perderse quedará decepcionado: libro antiguos, libros descatalogados, rarezas, colecciones de revistas, láminas y carteles antiguos, grabados... Lo que puede cualquier visitante ver en la tienda es, exactamente, una "punta del iceberg", y aunque cueste creerlo Toni sabe perfectamente lo que tiene. Hay desde luego más librerías de viejo (que así también se les llama) pero no son tan fantásticas.
